Epson to launch new products for healthcare, textile sector

The healthcare, education and textile sectors will be the new focus areas for digital imaging and printing solutions provider Epson India.

The company, part of the Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, has in the pipeline a clutch of new product launches for these sectors this fiscal.

For the healthcare segment, the firm will launch special scanners, label printers and disk producers (which can transfer patient records from the main disk to multiple storage areas disks) during the September-October period this year.

“We estimate the digital imaging market in the healthcare segment to be about Rs 1,200 crore. We intend to increase our share in this market in the coming years,” Deputy General Manager (Consumer Products) S. M. Ram Prasad said.

For the textile industry, Epson will be initially launching a printer that can be used for T-shirt printing, which will be followed up with a direct garment printer. “We will be taking aboard new sub-distributors for our textile products,” Prasad said.

Portable label printing, robotics and factory automation, wearable imaging devices and short-run label printing are the other areas the company will be getting into. “There is an increasing focus from Epson Japan on developing products for the Indian market,” he said.

The firm is currently the leader in the domestic inkjet printer market with a 23 per cent market share. Its projectors have a 14 per cent, dot matrix printers 53 per cent and billing printers 52 per cent. “We clocked a turnover of Rs 604 crore last fiscal and this year we are targeting 25 per cent growth,” he said.
